About Shashanka Lokireddy, MS, Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Hi, I’m Shashanka Lokireddy, a passionate and dedicated mental health clinician based in Tampa, Florida. Originally from India, my counseling journey has been deeply influenced by my international academic and professional experiences. I hold a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University and have gained over four years of hands-on experience working with diverse populations, ranging from individuals in outpatient settings to communities needing mental health education.

Beyond my professional credentials, I am committed to creating a supportive and empathetic space for clients to explore and overcome their challenges. My clinical approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, with a strong focus on anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, substance use, sleep disorders, couples counseling, and group home dynamics. I have experience managing a robust caseload, facilitating parental support groups, and integrating innovative solutions into therapy sessions.

Outside of work, I enjoy trekking, traveling, swimming, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. These activities allow me to recharge and bring balance to my personal and professional life.

Why I Became a Counselor

My passion for mental health stems from a desire to empower individuals and families to thrive despite life's challenges. Whether working with children in underserved villages or facilitating therapy sessions in clinical settings, I’ve always aimed to provide accessible, culturally sensitive, and meaningful care. I believe in the transformative power of mental health support and am driven to make a positive difference in the lives of my clients.

Education, Experience, and Approach

  • Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University, where I enhanced my skills through rigorous coursework and an in-house practicum.
  • Extensive experience working with clients in outpatient clinics such as Sevita and SCARF Florida, focusing on tailored therapeutic interventions and assessments.
  • International internships and social work projects provided me with a deep understanding of culturally diverse approaches to mental health.

Therapeutic Approach
I aim to build a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy, and collaboration. My approach integrates person-centered therapy, mindfulness techniques, and culturally adapted strategies to ensure clients feel seen, heard, and supported. I also focus on helping couples strengthen their relationships through effective communication, conflict resolution, and building emotional connection.

Let’s connect and work together toward your goals for mental wellness, relationship growth, and personal development. Remember, you are capable, resilient, and deserving of support.
