About Hailey Mackin, LMHC

Hey! I'm Hailey and I've been in Florida most of my life. In my free time, I enjoy going outside, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. I'm a BIG animal lover - I have two rescue cats and a corgi!

Why I became a Counselor

Early in life I knew I wanted to work with people, I just didn't know exactly what that would look like. Being that my mom was a teacher, I pursued what felt like a natural path and taught daycare and preschool before teaching 5th grade after graduation from college. As a teacher, I started to feel pulled to work with my students and their families in different ways. I wanted more time to be able to work with them, to help them process things, and to be able to help them emotionally develop. It was then that I decided to go to graduate school for counseling. I'm glad I did and know it was the best decision I've ever made.

Education, Experience, and Approach

I am a Licensed Therapist (LMHC) in the state of Florida. I attended Florida State for undergraduate school where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Family and Child Sciences before getting my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. I worked in various settings that include private practice, schools, residential settings, behavioral health agencies, and hospitals. I am now also a Qualified Supervisor and oversee newer counselor who are earning hours towards licensure in Florida.

I work with a broad range of individuals - kids, teens, adults, and couples - and help people with things like anxiety, depression, trauma, ODD, ADHD, life transitions, grief and major stressors. Therapy, I believe, is a team approach that requires work between sessions - it's a process that takes place over time and problems are often not resolved or fixed with on session.

In terms of approach, I utilize a combination of treatment philosophies depending on the individual need. I draw from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Play Therapy when developmentally/age appropriate. Although the work isn't always easy, I think it's important to incorporate humor into the process and laughing in sessions can be so healing! If you're doing couples work with me, you might expect some of the area of focus to be on building skills around communication, trust, and emotional awareness. Looking forward to meeting you!
